Why Hire a DJ?

I have seen this question a lot, especially now that there are services like Spotify that can provide endless music at a low price.

Truthfully, Spotify and other streaming services definitely have their place! It all depends on your goals and the nature of the event.

So, when is it worth it to make room in your budget for a professional DJ, and when can you afford to save? I have compiled a list of considerations to help you decide whether you should hire a professional, live, DJ or not:

Location

Is your venue in a remote location? A remote location might not have cell signal or WiFi, which would prevent your from using an internet based streaming service. You could preempt this problem by downloading your playlists, but you might miss out on some guest requests. A professional DJ has a vast amount of music pre-downloaded that they are able to play wherever the party might be happening.

Also, if you bring your own sound equipment and it happens to fail, you will be out of luck if there is nowhere nearby to get a replacement. A professional DJ always has backup equipment to ensure the show will go on.

As such, I recommend you hire a professional DJ if you want an amazing dance in a remote or unusual location.

Convenience

Event organizers already have so much on their plates! A professional DJ can take one thing off your shoulders.  Even when the venue provides sound equipment, technical troubles might still occur. You don’t want to be stuck trying to handle those instead of enjoying your event!

A professional DJ knows how to handle technical issues and will ensure that your event has an amazing soundscape from the moment your guests arrive, until the very end of the party. More importantly, you won’t have to spend your special day chasing down the venue manager trying to get them to resolve a technical issue.

Taste

A good DJ plays to everyone’s taste. If you put a friend or guest in charge of the music, they may play only music they like. At the very least, it’s likely they have a less diverse knowledge of music. I usually get at least one or two backseat DJs at every event I work at, who have a very one sided idea of what the guests want to hear. A professional DJ is more objective about what music to play, and will ensure that everyone is hearing the music that they want to!

Budget

This is definitely the biggest deterrent to hiring a DJ. The good news is, different DJ companies offer different ways to reduce the cost. The number one way that I would recommend reducing the cost is booking during the off season or on a weekday. I have been to AMAZING weddings that happened on a Tuesday!

Conclusion

Ultimately, hiring a DJ is a good decision when you, A) care about the “soundscape” of your event - not just the dance, but also the speeches and dinner music, and B) you want one less thing to stress about. Contact DJ Incredibeatz to find out if we are the right DJ service for you!
